Thank you for this inspiring essay Lyndsay. I’m naturally drawn to the water and earth elements, which resonate both with my ebb and flow energy and my impression of "growing below ground level".
But listening to what you shared during today’s Holding Stories circle and now reading your words, there’s also something about the air element that seems to be calling my soul.
I’m an air sign after all, so that doesn’t come as a total surprise. But some of the specific words you used particularly spoke to me: the "wings", as I keep picturing a phoenix rising each time I think of the transformation I’m experiencing, the "sound frequencies" which made me think of how much the Corsican polyphonic songs seem to almost physically resonate with me, and the "breath" because one of the reasons I chose the word "sip" in the name of my publication is linked to the idea of catching one’s breath but also of connecting with one’s breath more intentionally. Somehow your essay made me see so many connections and totally resonated with what I wrote in my own Siren Song.
Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts Maïlys. Oh yes I am so with you, earth and water often draw me too. But I am so glad to hear that you feel a new affinity with air too! Ooo which air sign are you? There is so much of the air element I do also identify with, in terms of ideas, inspiration and creativity, and sometimes feeling overwhelmed and scattered. I love the image of the phoenix and her wings as you navigate transitions. Wow, the traditional Corsican songs sound amazing, I will have to look them up. And yes, I love the ideas of breath connecting us all through air. I love the double meaning of sip in your publication name, you’re right it can be something quite fleeting or an act that is more intentional. I so look forward to reading your Siren Song! xx
I’m an Aquarius, with Scorpio rising 😉 I just listened to the podcast episode of Lauren where you were talking about the elements and got me interested to dive into it. So I think I’m gonna have a look at your archives.
Beautiful, utter beauty, I felt the collective magic entwine as I read this and it felt like a distant remembering. Your way of weaving ancient tales into something that is digestible and magical is so wonderful. The shell story gets me everytime… it brings up so much nostalgia for me and now seeing the girls also get so excited about shells is amazing. What a song you sing for us all. Very grateful for you xxxx
Ah thank you for this incredibly gorgeous and generous comment L. I am so moved to hear that aspects of the spell felt like a remembering. Yes, the seashell is such a treasure, and another remembering. It is so wonderful witnessing their beauty being appreciated and marvelled at by little ones. Thank you for singing the song along with me! xx
A beautifully weaved post, Lyndsay. Last week the woodland near me started to echo with woodpecker drumming, I heard my first chiffchaff and spotted my first wood anemones. It’s lovely to now reflect on that more with the reading of your words, thank you.
Oooo what a magical combination, I am so happy these ‘ingredients’ presented themselves to you! I spotted a woodpecker’s feather on my walk back through the woods today after picking up my son and it felt like a gift. Thank you so much for reading Katie xx
Oh Lyndsay, I loved this! It was so restful to read, deeply nourishing. I saw wood anemones in the woodland near my home the other day when I went to photograph the hazel trees. They are just magical to see carpet along the forest floor. And your observations about the seashells: "Perhaps it is the first time we hear our soul song..." Wow, that is just gorgeous. Thanks for this beautiful offering. Magical x
Thank you for reading Kelly, I am so glad it felt restful to read. And yes wow, there is something so special about wood anemones, like beautiful earth stars! So glad my seashell musings resonated! Thank you for sharing your wonderful tree magic and quiet revolution too xx
The imagery and stories within this were so transfixing. I just love your description of the air element -
“Air allows movement which helps to clear stagnancy and creates the right conditions for change. Air is not fixed, it allows for swiftness, flexibility and adaptability. Air is not stuck, it is fast-moving and can feel uplifting and fresh.”
We’ve had some wild winds here lately, kicking up dust all the way to the cloud ceiling. And despite my itchy eyes and scratchy throat, I’m enjoying how it playfully teases my hair and clothes. There is a childlike essence to it, as if catching me when I get too serious or stuck in one direction. Today, I’m reminded of how air brings a zippiness and brightness to my energy, and how ready for it I am in these early spring days. 🌱
Oh thank you Lydia, your kind words are so appreciated. I loved reading about your current experience of the air element and the wild winds that have been whipping up so much — I hope the dusty conditions have improved. I also love how you frame the child-like, playful essence of the wind, it added a whole other aspect for me. And oh yes to the much-needed liveliness of the air in spring, sending love as we approach the equinox xx
I adore this spell Lyndsay, thank you for sharing. Wood anemone's have been on my dream plant list for a couple of years now and this spell has moved them up to the top of it. I know exactly where i'll plant them-under my fruit trees so they can spread to their hearts content.
Ah thank you Kendall and wow how amazing to plant wood anemones in your garden, I hadn’t even thought of it for some reason, what a wonderful idea and I am sure they will love it under your fruit trees Please let me know how they get on, I would love to hear xx
Your writing style is so beautiful Lyndsay 🩷 I am immersed in imagery of spring, the sea and the ebb and flow of our bodies and souls. Some powerful questions to continue considering and journalling about
Ah thank you so much for reading and for your generous comment Laura. I am so happy to hear you were able to immerse yourself in the ebb and flow of our bodies and souls — it feels especially poignant at this time of back and forth in the seasonal shift into spring, a time of year that always seems to have a profound impact on my way of being! xx

Ooo I love this air and water combination. Do you know your moon sign? Ah thank you for listening. Yes please do, I have a whole elemental series https://storyandthread.substack.com/t/elemental-living xx
