What a beautifully written post, Lyndsay. And I was especially touched by the thought of the yin and yang of life, balancing always between seasons of movement and stillness.
I, too, feel as if I have been in a very long inward season of stillness since the pandemic. But, with this year, I feel that it is all shifting and I am emerging from the grief and quiet of the past 4 years into an outward season of slow movement.
Isn’t it amazing the lessons and wisdom that travel teaches us? After years of only traveling to the States to visit family, my wife and I are taking a long weekend trip to Tuscany for her 40th birthday - next weekend! I cannot wait to have that feeling of exploration, culture, and the pure indulgence of soaking in something and someplace new.
Thank you for giving me much to ponder as I prepare for my trip. xo 🫶🏻
Thank you for reading Liz and for seeing it that way. I hadn’t thought about it in those terms exactly although that’s how it feels deep in my body.
I am glad that you are feeling a shift within too. It feels like 2024 is a year of gentle emergence.
Yes travel is amazing for so many reasons and was once such an important part of me. It was so lovely to have the reminder. Wow your upcoming Tuscany trip sounds absolutely wonderful, it will be so sweet to soak in the magic of that beautiful place for such a special occasion, sending love to you both xx
Beautiful!! We’ll visit Greece for the first time on our honeymoon next month :) I’m feeling the garden slowly start to call me back out to movement, gentle, walking. I feel like my body has been static recently so I’m really welcoming the change.
Ah wow, what a beautiful location for your honeymoon, have a magical time! And yes I totally feel physically drawn outside by the garden. I agree, it feels good to welcome the change without having to force anything xx
Oh wow how wonderful to spend such a long time in Greece, did you travel around? I would so love to explore more! I’m so glad my holiday snaps were a welcome sight on your first day back. Wishing you an easeful landing back home xx
Ah so glad that my travel reflections resonated and yes you are so right about the travel lover / homebody contrast, I absolutely identify with both aspects and realise that it is ok and necessary for both to exist within me.
Glad you enjoyed the Grecian love and I am delighted to hear you have your own Greek adventure planned soon xx
We are in a season that is fairly static but with a little more movement than before… We have a few trips away booked for the spring and summer months (I’m currently writing this from the Lake District!). I’m enjoying venturing out a little more now that the little one is a bit older 🥰
Ah yes you are still in relative early days but you are definitely doing well to be moving a little more. How wonderful to be in the Lake District, I am desperate to go, it looks so beautiful. It is lovely to hear that you feel you are slowly venturing out as your little one grows xx
Ah thank you Claire. Yes Greece is absolutely a must for so many reasons, I think you would love it. I hope I can return soon and would love to explore more. Greek island hopping?! Yes please! xx
I’m in a place of stuckness rather than stillness, which I’m hoping to somehow unpick myself from this week. Homeland is the Scottish Borders. Heartland is the Outer Hebrides 💛
Ooo that is such an interesting distinction and I can see how my stillness can sometimes become stuckness, it is such a fine line. It’s good to be aware of the feeling and I hope you will be able to unpick yourself too.
I love how you describe homeland and heartland here, I can imagine there is much beauty in both. I would LOVE to explore more of Scotland, the Outer Hebrides look like another world xx
I loved reading this piece, thank you for your wonderful insight and snippets of Greece. I love travelling but don’t get to as often as I’d like, so when I do I really try to be present to the softness it brings to both my mind and body.
Thank you so much for reading Jenna. Yes you are so right about that softening in body and mind when we travel. It sometimes takes me a day or two and sometimes it’s immediate! My parents live in France and when I sit down with a coffee in the sunshine in the beautiful market square I always feel tension dissolve from my body there, I suppose it is somewhere that is both away and familiar xx
Lovely words Lyndsay. You take me back to when my children were small and the difficulties we embrace as mothers to give them every chance possible to experience new places. Glad you enjoyed Greece. I have yet to visit that beautiful country.
Thank you for reading Yasmin. And yes you are right, it really does feel important and really moving to see them experiencing new places, also knowing that it will be woven deeply into them somehow. And yes, not easy but getting easier! Greece does feel very special xx
Wow, Greece is my number one travel destination someday. These pictures were lovely. We are moving house this month and it is taking so much with a little one. I need a trip and I feel myself craving it, hopefully when all things settle down.

Oh what a gorgeous collection of words and reflections from your travels. I felt really soothed reading them. Xx
Thank you L, glad you enjoyed and felt soothed. Will be forever unpicking the movement and stillness / adventure and home duality I feel! xx
I just returned from a 2.5-month trip to Greece. It was great to see your post and all the beautiful photos on my first day back.
It’s very special to spend a good length of time in another place. Will you go back again?

This resonates: movement & stillness, travel loving and homebody… 💛
Full of Greek sunshine and energy from the sea 🌊
I can’t wait for my Greek summer trip ☀️
