A gorgeous post Lyndsay and I love your reflections on what your garden has taught you too. Loved the picture of the robin too! Your post reminded me that I need to get out into our garden more, even in the winter. One thing I've noticed this year at winter at sunset is that about 150 blackbirds all perch on the three trees at the back of our house, they all chitter and chatter, it's quite a sight! Hope you had a lovely Christmas 🎄 xx

Ah thank you Jenna and I am glad it has nudged you towards your garden in winter. It doesn’t always feel the most appealing but it is well worth it when you get out into the peace and quiet! Wow, your blackbirds at sunset sounds very magical, what a sight (and sound!) to behold, so special. Hope you had a lovely Christmas too xx

Chalcedony blue (what a jewel of a word!) and 'trust in the unseen growth' are my two highlights of this beautiful gentle post. Thank you for this breath of winter air, Lyndsay. Wishing you and yours a restful Christmas and New Year ✨

Oh Lyndsay, I am so grateful for your garden secrets and musings. Since I live so high up in my building, I often feel disconnected from the earth, and I certainly don’t have a garden to wander and putter in. So, I live vicariously through you, until I am out and about on a walk around the river or in a city park. Your writings on the simple gifts of the garden keep me grounded and inspired in the meantime. Thank you so much for your gentle words and for inviting me over to enjoy the quiet beauty of your garden through the seasons. Wishing you a most cozy and merry holiday, dear you. Sending love and gratitude for this lovely friendship we’ve begun during this past year. xo

Ah thank you Liz, I am so glad you enjoyed reading. And yes! I used to live on 4th floor and it is a different relationship with the earth, but it is so special for the expansive views. It is more than a pleasure to share my garden stories, I’m grateful to you for reading my words. I absolutely agree, and so treasure the kinship we have found here through our experiences of the seasons, and beyond. Sending love for a soft and sparkly Christmas my dear xx

Reading this, I felt so there with you in your wintry garden. And as someone who doesn’t have a garden (and is reading this in a warm flat!), I loved experiencing it vicariously, through all your beautiful images. Great winter wisdom, too. Especially the reminder that growth also happens in the unseen realms.

I hope you’re now fully recovered from flu. Wishing you a wonderful (& quiet!) festive season, and start to 2025. xx

Thank you, I am a lot better, it really floored me for a while! Yes, wishing you a very merry, cosy, calm Christmas, hope we can do coffee and cinnamon buns (and farmers’ market!) in the new year xx

Thank you for reading David. Absolutely, I find that if I’m in doubt, looking out the window so often gives me a cue/prompt/idea that I can take into my life 🌿❄️✨

This is wonderful and has inspired me to keep softening into the season. We’ve just had a tree cut back so our garden looks very barren and bleak but I’ve been challenging myself to see the beauty in it. Thank you for the inspiration! xx

So glad to hear that you are continuing to soften into the season. Ah I understand your feelings about the cut tree and its absence in your garden. Perhaps there is space to grow something new in its place? I know, it can be tricky to embrace the garden at this stage of winter, at first glance it can feel very stark but I’m sure there is much beauty on looking close up xx

So beautiful. Thank you, Lyndsay.

It's very soothing to read about your time in the garden. Even though (as yet!) I have not found my way in to becoming a gardener myself.

Wishing you a restful holiday period and I hope you're feeling better x
