I first came to know place writing through my experience as an interior designer. I spent a decade helping people make their homes better, healthier, and more supportive of their chosen lifestyle. Home is such an important place, and your post made me remember those tender days when I had my first home and brought up two little ones. It's a very special time. Thank for sharing your home with us, Lyndsay.
Ah thank you for your lovely comment Yasmin. It is so interesting to hear that interior design led you to place writing, I would love to hear more about your work as a designer and how you worked with your clients.
In many ways my work in interior design PR has informed my understanding of space and the importance of our homes both as places to return to and to grow from.
My own experience in early motherhood in our home continues to evolve slowly alongside my intentions and the way we use the space. You are right, it is a special time, despite the mayhem I know I will look back on these days with a lot of love! xx
Ah thank you Eva-Maria, would SO love to have you over for a cup of something warm and some heart-filled chats xx ps I haven’t forgotten about the email I owe you!
I do enjoyed this insight into your story and your beautiful home. I love reading about your ‘why’ behind the name Story and Thread... there is so much in a name when it is chosen intentionally. Looking forward to reading the evolving story as it unfolds. Xxx
Thank you my dear, I’m so pleased you enjoyed reading, lots of layers that I feel still need further exploration but I’m glad the essence came across. Yes look forward to continuing to share the story of home, it’s a slow one but hopefully worth sticking around for...! xx
So lovely to get to know a little more about you and your family and to be welcomed into the beautiful space and atmosphere you're creating in your home. It's inspiring how, even while settling in within the house (and within the world of mothering!!), much like we are, you are also managing to bring such beauty and thoughtful curation into the process of "making a home". Truly truly inspiring 💌
Thank you so much for reading Julia. And yes you are very welcome! Thank you, it is both front and back of mind, sometimes (actually a lot of the time!) things are very messy, there feels as though there is little sacredness and it is all extremely S L O W, but at the same time it feels as though we are living in the process, rather than getting it ‘done’ to then live in! Love to you xx
Living the whole process rather than getting it done just to get in. Yes, slowly building it in an authentic, organic way, taking the time and deepening into the feelings of “home”. Yes to this!
Ah thank you Mackenzie, I am so glad you felt that the pictures flowed next to the words, it was a process of conjuring them from the image library in my mind and then locating them from my camera roll in real life! xx
Oooh I love the word apricity...for me, it always sparks a vivid image of winter light being cast onto a wall, much like your photo. In my daughter’s room, it creates a morning rainbow dance through her crystals ✨
It has got to be one of my favourite words...and feelings, warmth on skin in winter, can’t beat it! Your daughter’s rainbow crystals sound magical.
Ah thank you, it is always a joy to step through! There are a few houses in the immediate area with the same design, I would like to find out more about it xx
I love that you read history at uni! If I hadn’t read music that was absolutely my second choice- it’s all inquiries and stories eh! Also, I’m in your neck of the woods. Was meant to be at air studios now but just in auto pilot went to abbey road... idiot but reading this on the bus is v soothing x
Ahhh yes! It was never really a question though I did love English too. Love the idea of reading music, where did you do that? Ah so lovely that you were close by, very happy to accompany you on your North London bus journey xx
Ohh I loved learning more about your home and journey with it. May I ask where your golden wall lamp is from? I’ve been researching for hours and hours and hours and would have loved a scissor wall lamp but not settled on a golden one similar to yours but less exciting, just haven’t ordered yet. So now I want to get yours hahah
I’m so fascinated by what makes us feel at home, what is required in the process, the inner and outer work.
What feels like a lifetime ago, at uni I did an ethnographic research project with all the annoying required ethics approvals to find out what it means to create a home away from home for the polish migrants that I interviewed in the UK. Feeling not so much location as a place in this work.
And my own journey with the topic of “home” is quite a wild one, which I’ve been aiming to write down for a long time.
Thank you for reading Carmen, so pleased to have you here. The lamp is from Anthropologie, it works brilliantly for providing light in that corner of the room and having some flexibility/movement, I would highly recommend, we do need a few more lamps dotted around though!
Yes feeling ‘at home’ is a fascinating topic with so many layers of individual feelings and experiences. I could explore it forever! Your research project sounds so interesting, I would love to hear more about the responses. And I would love to hear more about your journey of home too, look forward to reading when you find the right time to write it down xx

This was just so beautiful. I would love to be able to come in for a cup of tea and talk homes and motherhood and all things tender.

Lyndsay, please don't worry about the email. You will send it when it feels good for you. We are in the sun-stillness after all.

Oh it is definitely worth sticking around for. Home is heart of course xxx
This was a lovely introduction to you and your home! That wildflower stained-glass door is amazing 😍 I’d have bought the home purely for that!
Thank you Victoria. Yes tbh the house had me at the front door...and it does bring me joy everyday! xx

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Claire. So glad you enjoyed the stories and the pictures. Hope we can have a cuppa IRL one day! xx
