Hello, I am so glad you have found your way here… I’m Lyndsay — mother, creative and storyteller with a background in interiors PR.
Step inside Story & Thread., a cosy, layered home where the threads of creativity, interiors and mothering meet. Here, we unearth the stories from the seasons of our lives, with a house & a garden at the heart, and everyday beauty as our guide…
“Much cold, much overbearing darkness.
Various long midwinter Glooms.
Various Solitary and Terrible Stars.
Many Frosty Nights, many previously Unseen Sky-flowers”.
—Alice Oswald.
Dearest reader…
We have passed the full February moon, and the light is lingering longer as we move into the third week of February — do you sense the stirrings of the slow, subtle beginnings of spring? Do you feel us tip-toeing towards the very longest season of all, ‘winterspring’…?!
Over this half-term week, it will certainly be restoring to not be moving between home and school six times a day (!), but I am aware that my time will be very much compressed, stretched, and shaped by my little ones in all ways possible. Despite only having a handful of loose plans, I have no doubt that this week will feel very full — of both the magic and the mayhem that my children seem to conjure and leave in their wake!
I hope to make space in the cracks, under the pale light of the waning snow moon to tie up the most wintry of things. It is a case of both looking back to reflect on this quiet, cold season, looking forward to the possibility within the weeks to come, whilst most importantly, remaining anchored in what is unfolding right now. It is simultaneously an ending and a beginning, and as always a continuation…
You are invited to Gather & Tend.
As I sense the familiar but not altogether comfortable beginnings of the back and forth, ebb and flow, emergence and retreat of ‘winterspring’, it feels like a good time to introduce a cosy online co-working space within The Beauty Thread. membership, called Gather & Tend.…
It will be an opportunity to gather together to find an anchor within the back and forth of early spring…
March is a melding of the seasons, a container of change. It is not one or the other, or perhaps it is both, with spring keen to move forwards but winter still holding on tight — it is ‘winterspring’. Naming this time in an unpredictable shape-shifting corner of the calendar soothes me somewhat, embracing the push/pull and knowing that we are not supposed to be in spring yet, but it is coming.
…followed by time and space to work on our own projects (this includes really anything, from writing, creating art, working on your business, reading, feeding a baby…), individually but together.
The first session will be open to all subscribers.
Winter love in flower form.
Today I share a micro-dose of seasonal love in flower form with a recording (above) about the wisdom of winter flowers, a section I didn’t manage to share within A Seasonal Salon. for winter, inspired by my recent winter flower oracle for hope, soft strength and renewal, and an extract from the winter garden chapter of A Storied Home. in winter…
These pages have been added to the full version of A Storied Home. in winter for members of The Beauty Thread.
Thank you so much for reading. I would love to know how you are feeling as we move towards ‘winterspring’ — are you still wrapped up in a winter cocoon, or you gently turning outwards towards spring?
I’d love to chat more in the comments, or of course feel free to send me an email, it is always lovely to hear from you.
P.S. If you fancy any further winter reading, do check out my most recent posts below…
