“You have become
an incredible self-sustaining thing of epic proportions.
And, you should be so proud of yourself,
of how far you have come
from the seeds of who you used to be.”
– Nikita Gill, The Forest.
Dearest reader
Yesterday, we gathered together to light a bright fire within at A Seasonal Salon, spring edition as the glorious spring light poured in, bringing the jug of peonies on my desk into fullness.
It was such a joy to share seasonal insights with a group of beautiful souls — to witness wonder rising up in each of us, to remind ourselves to tend to our seeds/selves, to celebrate what is blooming, and connect to the bright fire that resides within. It was so nourishing to receive everyone’s reflections, to feel the support of each other within the space, and to explore the themes deeply embedded in spring.
Above is a recording of the Salon and below is a written guide, with details of poetry, quotes and references for all members of The Beauty Thread. I will also be sending out some smaller snippets from the Salon over the next couple of weeks for all subscribers which I hope will provide some micro-doses of seasonal love.
My intention for A Seasonal Salon. is to make space and time to steep ourselves in the season we find ourselves in, by weaving together seasonal reflections, poetry and, flowers and folklore to,
to reflect on the season so far
to anchor in this seasonal moment
to craft intentions inspired by the season
The spring edition of A Seasonal Salon. is an opportunity to gather together — to light a bright fire within, to shed the layers we have been cocooned in, to step barefoot into a meadow of magic and potential.
Welcome to A Seasonal Salon., spring edition — thank you for being here.
Light a bright fire within.
If you have time, do make yourself comfortable and take a moment to arrange your space…
perhaps with a view of the world beyond your window (which to me looks very green right now), or have something that feels ‘of the season’ in your sights — I have a small calendar on my desk from my sister that is filled with wildflower seeds for May, I also have my seedlings close by, and a vase of peonies that my friend very kindly gave me...
light a candle with me — I will light a candle to open the Salon to signify the bright light that was traditionally celebrated at Beltane in May, it would be lovely if you have one to light too.
have a notebook and a pen — we will move through a series of seasonal reflections, ideas and fragments, with an opportunity to muse and contemplate (and perhaps share if you feel called). All is entirely optional.
Have something to sip (and to nibble on) that feels comforting and nourishing.
REFLECT.
Wonder & writing.
Wonder is a feeling sense often evoked in response to experiencing beauty. It is a vehicle of intuition and knowing, that comes before thought or knowledge. Cultivating knowing and intuition, allows us to be deeply in touch with ourselves.
“The sense of wonder is so very important to us because it precedes knowing. It precedes knowledge…”
From beauty came wonder. Wonder has nothing to do with knowledge. It’s just a kind of first response to the intuitive…”
Knowledge was really not as important as your sense of wonder, which was a great feeling - without reservation, without obligation, without accounting for yourself, just the closest in-touchness with your intuitive wonder…
Intuition is your most exacting sense. It is the most reliable sense. It is the most personal sense that a singularity has, and it, not knowledge, must be considered your greatest gift. If it isn’t in wonder you needn’t bother about it”.
Extracts from Louis Kahn, Essential Texts.
*What does wonder feel like to you?
*When was the last time you felt the sense of wonder, was it this spring?
Many of the attendees at the Salon shared something so beautiful about their own perception of wonder — I have collated them below to create a very inspiring collection of thoughts…
